Reimagining Energy Permitting for the 21st Century

July 20, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Congress has a once-in-a-decade opportunity to rethink how the United States does energy permitting—a step that would accelerate efforts to modernize the country’s physical infrastructure. The old way of permitting must be reformed to facilitate deployment of innovative technologies that will enhance U.S. energy security and address environmental imperatives. Yet the discussion about permitting reform to date has largely focused on procedural reforms to federal statutes, such as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). While siting and building need to speed up, additional permitting challenges for new and emerging energy technology solutions remain.

Please join the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation (ITIF) on Capitol Hill for a briefing event featuring keynote remarks by Reps. Garret Graves (R-LA) and Scott Peters (D-CA) followed by an expert panel discussion on ways Congress can reduce barriers to digital energy solutions, increase new energy infrastructure technologies, and modernize our entire energy infrastructure.
