A Book Talk with Dr. Martin Rizzo-Martinez, “We Are Not Animals: Indigenous Politics of Survival, Rebellion, and Reconstitution in Nineteenth-Century California”

Dr. Martin Rizzo-Martinez, a California State Parks historian & Tribal Liaison will deliver a talk titled “We Are Not Animals: Indigenous Politics of Survival, Rebellion, and Reconstitution in Nineteenth-Century California.” This presentation will be based upon his book: We Are Not Animals: Indigenous Politics of Survival, Rebellion, and Reconstitution in Nineteenth-Century California (Lincoln: University of Nebraska Press, 2022). This is a deeply-researched study of the Indigenous peoples of Santa Cruz and surrounding areas that improves our understanding of Native American experiences in California as a whole.
