Global Divestment Day

February 13, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Hosted by Fossil Free UCLA

The day before Valentine’s Day, student group Fossil Free UCLA will stage a rally on campus–complete with political theater, some bears, and lots of oiled up money! The LA indigenous activism group Idle No More will join us, along with many campus student organizations to demand the UC divest from Fossil Fuels.

Speaker Elouise Brown will be joining us as well! Elouise Brown is a Diné (Navajo) elder, an iraqi war veteran and the president of the Doodá Desert Rock committee. In 2007, she successfully organized grassroots direct action to prevent the construction of 2.5 billion dollar Desert Rock coal plant that would have otherwise destroyed her ancestral land, poisoned her community, and perpetuated reliance on fossil fuels. She has previously spoken at the UN and in Washington D.C. on indigenous land and resource rights.
