Purchasing
The UC Green Building/Clean Energy Policy states "The University will use its purchasing power to promote the availability of resource-efficient, energy-efficient, water-efficient, recycled-content, and rapidly renewable content products for building materials, subsystems, components, equipment, and supplies."
Quick Facts

Sustainable Procurement Strategies
The University is engaged in several efforts to integrate green procurement initiatives into strategic procurement programs, including development of restructured purchasing contracts that will include sustainability principles in various strategic sourcing areas such as paper, janitorial, and equipment products. In addition, a UC-wide committee on strategic food service sourcing has been tasked with responsibility to develop an RFP for organically grown and sustainable food products for the university and its campuses. At the campus level, green products already do make up a portion of the total procurement (for example, approximately 26 percent of all office, dining and janitorial paper products purchased by UCLA in 2002-03 included recycled content).
